About the position

The Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology at Owensboro Health Medical Group plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, collaborating closely with physicians to diagnose and treat a variety of acute and chronic health conditions. This position is integral to providing high-quality care to patients, particularly in the cardiology department. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for obtaining comprehensive patient histories and conducting thorough assessments through observation, interviews, and examinations. This role also involves ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic studies to inform treatment decisions. In addition to diagnostic responsibilities, the Nurse Practitioner may be required to perform preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations, and other forms of care. They will provide direct treatment and management of health conditions, utilizing their prescriptive authority or making referrals to other healthcare providers or community resources as necessary. Education and counseling of patients and their families regarding preventative health measures, treatment options, and available community resources are also key components of this role. The Nurse Practitioner will ensure that care is delivered in a manner that respects age and cultural differences, promoting informed choices and shared decision-making. Accurate and timely documentation of assessments and patient care plans is essential. The role may also involve coordinating registration functions, which includes collecting and entering demographic, insurance, and employer information, as well as managing co-payments. This position is full-time, with a schedule of days from 0700 to 1600, and requires a commitment to providing exceptional patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain patient history and perform assessments via observation, interview, and examination.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies.
  • Perform preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations, and care as required.
  • Provide direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Counsel and educate patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Promote age and culture-appropriate informed choices, shared decision-making, and the right to self-determination.
  • Document assessments and patient care plans accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate registration functions including collecting and entering demographic, insurance, employer information, and co-payments.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Nursing required upon hire.
  • RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kentucky required upon hire.
  • APRN - Licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Kentucky required upon hire.
  • National certification from one of the following required upon hire: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACCN), National Certification for the Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing Specialties (NCCCOGN), Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or National Certification Corporation (NCC) for Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
