About the position
The Nurse Practitioner for Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery at Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for providing comprehensive patient care through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients in a hospital setting. This role involves working nights and includes responsibilities such as performing medical procedures, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring high-quality care in accordance with hospital policies and standards.
Responsibilities
- Provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, and reviews/orders diagnostic tests and radiographic results.
- Formulates and manages patient treatment plans and outcomes, providing interventions such as arterial line placement and intubations.
- Collaborates in the development and evaluation of patient care, updating clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Uses communication skills to educate patients and families on care and resources.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to policies and standards.
- Promotes professional growth and development by meeting education and skills competency requirements.
- Models service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences.
Requirements
- Graduate of Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the State of Texas or Graduate of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Masters of Nursing preferred.
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with at least two years' experience in palliative care or hospice, or Family Nurse Practitioner with ACHPN certification required for Palliative Care.
- Current State of Texas license to practice professional nursing.
- Certification in area of specialty by recognized credentialing bodies.
- Certified in Basic Life Support and current ACLS or PALS or NRP.
- Certified in ATLS if area of practice is Trauma within 6 months of hire date.
- Two years clinical nursing experience in area of intended practice.

- Strong CV ICU RN experience for new grad APPs.
