The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Child Psychiatry will provide comprehensive nursing medical care for high acuity patients in collaboration with a physician. This role is critical in managing the care of specialty patients, focusing on the maintenance, achievement, and restoration of optimal functions. The NP will be responsible for performing histories and physicals, managing admissions and discharges, and ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care throughout their treatment journey. This includes visiting patients prior to surgery, conducting discharge teaching afterward, and prescribing medications, including narcotics, as necessary. In addition to direct patient care, the NP will play a vital role in partnership and collaboration with physicians. This involves planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing medical care that aligns with medical treatment protocols. The NP will initiate or modify medical treatment within established medical protocols, assist with consults, write orders, and coordinate with consulting physicians. Accompanying physicians on rounds and analyzing clinical data are also key responsibilities, as well as ordering and performing necessary diagnostic tests or procedures. The NP will develop, implement, and evaluate therapeutic regimens tailored to the needs of each patient. Quality of care is paramount in this role. The NP will educate and support patients and their families, ensuring a seamless transition of care and minimizing fragmentation. This includes managing the transition of patients to step-down units or outpatient settings and serving as a patient advocate. The NP will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned or requested, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to patient-centered care. Given the nature of the hospital setting, the NP will be involved in on-call duties, hospital rounds, and assisting MDs with procedures in both clinic and hospital environments.
