About the position

The Nurse Practitioner will provide emergency and primary health care services for patients in the Emergency Department (ED) under the supervision of the ED physician. This role emphasizes compassionate care and adherence to the core values of respect, stewardship, quality, and justice, reflecting the healing ministry of Christ. The Nurse Practitioner will assess patients, perform emergency procedures, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients using advanced knowledge and skills to identify abnormal conditions and diagnose health problems.
• Evaluate patient outcomes and collaborate with or refer to the ED physician or other consultants in managing care.
• Use critical thinking skills to make independent decisions in line with nurse practitioner practice.
• Consult and collaborate with other ED members to provide reasonable patient care, both acute and ongoing.
• Conduct assessments of patients and families, including health history and physical examinations.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Counsel individuals, families, and groups about health and illness, promoting wellness.
• Participate in evaluations of services rendered and apply research findings relevant to nurse practitioners.
• Perform clinical procedures as training, experience, and patient need allows.

Requirements

• Master of Science Degree in Nursing and current Advanced Practice Nursing license in Indiana.
• Authority to prescribe legend drugs, including controlled substances, with Indiana Controlled Substances Registration and Federal Drug Enforcement Administration Registration.
• ACLS and BCLS certification required; PALS or ENPC recommended.
• Previous Emergency Department experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Emergency Medicine and trauma care principles.
• Proficient skills to perform emergency procedures within the scope of practice.
