About the position

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant of Urgent Care/Emergency Department (ED) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for delivering medical and educational services to patients under the supervision and collaboration of a licensed physician. This role emphasizes teamwork and cooperation among healthcare providers, co-workers, and the public to ensure positive patient interactions and outcomes. The Iron Mountain ED, which was recently renovated in 2021, serves as the only emergency department within a large radius, treating nearly 20,000 patients annually. This position requires a commitment to high-quality patient care and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. In this role, the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be expected to assess, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with a variety of medical conditions in the emergency setting. They will also provide education to patients and their families regarding health management and preventive care. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative team that prioritizes patient-centered care and strives to enhance the overall patient experience. The position requires flexibility in work hours, as shifts may vary, and the ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of emergency medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical assessments and treatment to patients in the emergency department.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care.
  • Educate patients and families on health management and preventive care strategies.
  • Document patient interactions and treatment plans accurately in the medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the overall efficiency of the emergency department.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in nursing or Physician Assistant program from an accredited institution.
  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse License.
  • Nurse Practitioner Certification from a national certifying body.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber Certification from the State of Wisconsin.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within three months of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification from the American Heart Association.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two years of nursing experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at the time of hire preferred.
