The Nurse Practitioner - ICU position at Memorial Hermann Health System is a PRN role focused on providing high-quality, efficient care in the Intensive Care Unit. The role involves comprehensive patient care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management, while working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team. The position requires flexibility to work nights and fill in gaps in the schedule as needed, with a strong emphasis on supporting both patient and staff well-being.

Responsibilities

• Provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• Obtains medical histories, performs physical examinations, and formulates and manages patient treatment plans.
• Performs procedures including arterial line placement, central line placement, intubations, and chest tube removal.
• Collaborates in the development and evaluation of patient care and updates clinical guidelines/protocols.
• Educates patients and families on care and resources, participating in process improvement activities.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to all policies and standards.
• Promotes professional growth and development by meeting continuing education requirements and serving as a mentor.

Requirements

• Graduate of Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the State of Texas; Masters of Nursing preferred.
• Current State of Texas license to practice professional nursing.
• Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center or equivalent in area of specialty.
• Two years of clinical nursing experience in the ICU.
• Must be able to perform procedures such as lines and intubations.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in trauma care as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
• Certification in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) within 6 months of hire.
