About the position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for assessing selected patients within the designated service, performing physical examinations, and collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure quality patient care. The NP plays a crucial role in coordinating patient care and maintaining effective communication with the healthcare team, while adhering to established protocols and quality indicators.

Responsibilities

  • Practices under established NP procedures consistent with Kaiser Permanente policy and California Board of Registered Nursing requirements.
  • Conducts age-appropriate assessments of patients, including history taking and physical examinations.
  • Performs ongoing systematic assessment/data collection focusing on various patient statuses and education.
  • Consults with supervising physician or other clinicians based on patient needs and assessment findings.
  • Participates with physicians and other clinicians to ensure effective patient care consistent with quality indicators.
  • Reviews medical records for follow-up or ordering diagnostic studies under established protocols.
  • Establishes and maintains communication with other healthcare providers and departments for operational efficiency.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families, acknowledging cultural and ethical beliefs.
  • Delegates appropriately and coordinates duties of healthcare team members, evaluating the effectiveness of care provided.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of safety principles and performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional practice and participates in staff development activities.
  • Participates in unit and department Performance Improvement activities and nursing research as requested.
  • Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in using computers and telecommunication modalities for documentation and information conveyance.
  • Fulfills expectations established for specialty roles if applicable.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a nurse practitioner.
  • One (1) year of experience as a NP providing specialized care for neurological conditions within the past three (3) years.
  • Masters Degree in Nursing (unless already a Kaiser Permanente employee grandfathered in prior to January 1, 2008).
  • Completion of a masters program in Adult NP, Family practice NP, Acute Care NP, or Pediatric NP required.
  • Registered Nurse License (California).
  • Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number (California).
  • Nurse Practitioner Certificate (California).
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Nurse Practitioner National Certificate.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.
