About the position

The Nurse Practitioner in the MICU at Northwell Health is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. This role involves performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and participating in interdisciplinary team meetings to enhance patient care. The Nurse Practitioner will also engage in quality improvement initiatives and maintain professional documentation and certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, document, and update medical history of patients.
  • Perform physical examinations and conduct preventive screenings based on age and history.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses and plans of care based on clinical findings.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe pharmacological therapies.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans and modify them as necessary.
  • Participate in research processes and apply evidence-based practices.
  • Make referrals to other health professionals and community agencies.
  • Admit and discharge patients to appropriate services.
  • Discuss advanced directives and end-of-life issues with patients and families.
  • Serve on departmental and multidisciplinary committees to influence nursing practice policies.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in New York State.
  • National Board Certification in specialty area required, to be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Collaborative practice agreement with designated protocols filed with NYS Department of Education or collaborative relationship attestation as per the Nurse Practitioner Modernization Act 2015.
  • Previous experience relevant to the area of clinical practice preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year Critical Care NP experience preferred or completion of NP Critical Care fellowship.
