About the position

The Nurse Practitioner Per Diem in Hand/ED Surgical Services at UC Davis Health System is responsible for providing advanced clinical expertise to patients and their families. This role involves managing chronic and acute medical conditions, performing non-invasive and invasive procedures, and acting as a resource for healthcare providers. The position requires independent decision-making and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient care in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical expertise to patients and their families.
  • Manage chronic stable medical conditions and provide routine and acute care.
  • Perform non-invasive and invasive procedures, including surgical procedures as needed.
  • Act as an expert resource for healthcare providers, including nurses and residents.
  • Participate in patient and staff education and demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Ensure accountability for practices as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Requirements

  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License within 3 months of hire
  • California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Graduation with a master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
  • One year or greater experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Orthopedics, including hand surgery
  • Experience independently performing related procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role
