About the position

The HSS Orthopedics Now program is designed to provide immediate access for patients aged 12 years and older who present with undiagnosed musculoskeletal injuries or sudden onset of pain. As a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) at HSS Paramus, you will play a crucial role in triaging, diagnosing, and treating these patients, ensuring they receive the appropriate level of care in a timely manner. This position allows you to work independently while collaborating with HSS physicians, providing a full range of primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services. You will be responsible for diagnosing and treating a variety of acute musculoskeletal injuries, including but not limited to bone, joint, or muscle injuries, strains, sprains, minor dislocations, and closed fractures. Additionally, you will manage conditions such as painful, swollen joints, back and neck pain, osteoarthritis, and sports injuries, as well as perform procedures like steroid injections, joint aspirations, and general bracing and splinting. Responsibilities

  • Triage patients with undiagnosed musculoskeletal injuries or sudden onset of pain.
  • Diagnose and treat acute musculoskeletal injuries including strains, sprains, and fractures.
  • Perform procedures such as steroid injections and joint aspirations.
  • Refer patients to higher levels of care when necessary.
  • Collaborate with HSS physicians to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Maintain clinical competency and engage in continued learning and professional development.
  • Promote quality healthcare and seek to improve clinical outcomes.

Requirements

  • Obtains and maintains NP license in New Jersey (for Nurse Practitioners).
  • Obtains and maintains PA license in New Jersey (for Physician Assistants).
  • Obtains and maintains board certification as a NP in specialty area of practice (for Nurse Practitioners).
  • Obtains and maintains current NCCPA certification (for Physician Assistants).
  • Minimum of 2 years working in the field of orthopedics.
  • Experience with injections, aspirations, and casting.
  • BLS certification via American Heart Association.
  • Current Infection Control Certification and completion of a child abuse recognition course.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in orthopedics is highly desired but not required.
