About the position

The Nurse Practitioner (Primary Care) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs VA Boston Healthcare System is a full-time role located in Plymouth, MA. This position is integral to the Primary Care Service Line, where the incumbent will be responsible for managing and evaluating a designated cohort of patients. The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive preventive and wellness care, as well as acute, episodic, chronic, and end-of-life care to Veterans. Utilizing advanced skills in assessment, problem identification, treatment planning, and implementation, the Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with other healthcare team members to continuously improve the quality of care delivered to Veterans. The role requires the Nurse Practitioner to design, implement, and revise interdisciplinary patient-driven holistic care plans. They will maintain their knowledge and skills to ensure expertise in their area of practice and accept personal responsibility for ongoing professional development related to Nurse Practitioner competence. The position also involves using professional standards of care to evaluate programs and service activities, demonstrating professional behavior, effective communication, and interpersonal skills. The Nurse Practitioner will engage in team processes to identify, analyze, and resolve care problems, ensuring continuity of care with the patient's life plan. This position is not only about providing care but also about promoting patient and personnel safety, integrating biopsychosocial concepts, and honoring diversity in the work environment. The Nurse Practitioner will coach colleagues in team building and make sustained contributions to healthcare by sharing their expertise. The work schedule is from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and while telework is available on an ad-hoc basis, this is not a virtual position. The role is permanent and offers a competitive salary range of $130,710 to $200,005 per year, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing and medical services to Veterans and their families/caregivers in both individual and group settings.
  • Design, implement, and revise interdisciplinary patient-driven holistic care plans.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills to ensure expertise in area of practice.
  • Accept personal responsibility for ongoing professional development related to NP competence.
  • Use professional standards of care and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Engage in team processes to identify, analyze, and resolve care problems.
  • Communicate appropriately and regularly with the Team lead for continuity of care with the patient's life plan.
  • Fulfill group practice provider responsibilities.
  • Utilize research to validate and/or change work group practice.
  • Promote patient and personnel safety.
  • Integrate biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and cultural considerations to provide holistic care.
  • Maintain a work environment that honors diversity.
  • Coach colleagues in team building.
  • Make sustained contributions to healthcare by sharing expertise.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Must possess and maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must have a post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must maintain full and current board certification in an area of clinical specialty from a recognized certifying body.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in outpatient primary care is strongly preferred.
