About the position

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Rheumatology is responsible for supporting the doctors' work and facilitating patients' recovery. The NP serves as the primary medical representative of the practice, available for patient inquiries during office hours. This role involves providing care to patients before, during, and after surgical operations, performing physical exams, analyzing diagnostic tests, and educating patients about treatment options.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients' health and their demands and aim to fulfill them as well as possible.
  • Write orders in the recovery room, talk with family, visit patients, and perform post-op procedures.
  • Issue appropriate prescriptions and administer medicine.
  • Inform physicians about any problems or discrepancies that might arise.
  • Acquire and review patient histories identifying abnormal conditions.
  • Monitor patients' progress and keep records of treatments, surgeries, or other medical events.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and conduct routine procedures (measure blood pressure and temperature, administer injections, etc.).
  • Cultivate a climate of trust and compassion for the patients.
  • Comply strictly with medical care regulations and safety standards.
  • Monitor and guide activities of practice staff to ensure smooth patient flow.
  • Dictate discharge summaries, write prescriptions, explain discharge instructions, and confirm follow-up appointments.
  • Assist with all clinic functions including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and entering charges.

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Knowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, therapy, and recovery.
  • Familiarity with advancements in medical technology.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, flexible, organized, and able to function well under pressure.
  • Detailed knowledge of HIPAA rules and requirements.
  • Master of Science in Nursing degree from an approved nurse practitioner program.
  • Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts.
  • Currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state of Texas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a medical practice with emphasis in Orthopedics highly desired.
