About the position
The Consult Liaison Nurse Practitioner will provide psychiatric evaluation and management for patients admitted to medical and surgical units at a Level 1 Trauma Center. This role involves working with diverse patient populations experiencing various mental health issues, including intoxication, withdrawal, delirium, and mood disorders. The position emphasizes collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient care, respond to behavioral emergencies, and implement behavioral plans. The role includes clinical work, staff education, and quality improvement initiatives, primarily during weekends.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric evaluation and management for patients in medical and surgical units.
- Support non-behavioral health staff in caring for behavioral health patients.
- Respond to behavioral emergencies and assist in restraint reduction.
- Provide education and training to staff on de-escalation and crisis mitigation.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including MDs, social workers, and therapists.
- Develop and implement behavioral plans for patients with mental health needs.
- Conduct health histories, physical exams, and initiate diagnostic procedures.
Requirements
- Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current Virginia State Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) and DEA license required, or must be eligible to obtain.
- AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
- Advanced Life Support certification required.
- Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with healthcare providers.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Computer literacy for electronic medical records.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a Level 1 Trauma Center setting.
- Familiarity with behavioral health issues and treatment protocols.
- Advanced skills in crisis intervention and management.
