About the position

The Carter Treatment Center is seeking an Addiction Medicine Nurse Practitioner to provide psychiatric evaluation, medical services, and medication management for adult clients with substance use disorders. This role involves working under the Medical Director and collaborating with an interdisciplinary treatment team to deliver evidence-based care in a supportive environment. The position offers flexibility with potential full-time or part-time hours, including telehealth services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive initial medical history and physical (H&P) and psychiatric evaluations, complete follow-up appointments, and make recommendations for treatment within an evidence-based framework.
  • Provide psychotherapeutic services with medical evaluation and management including evaluation and assessment of physiological phenomena.
  • Prescribe medications and provide comprehensive medication services based on clinical indicators, including results of diagnostic and lab testing.
  • Run PDMP on new clients and prior to prescribing medications, ensuring documentation in the client's record.
  • Administer medication injections in the proper method, time, and dosage as prescribed/ordered, and document in the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
  • Observe and record client response to medication and/or medication side effects; report significant reactions to the medical director.
  • Oversee processes necessary to order/receive prescribed medications, securely store them on-site, and maintain security measures.
  • Order and interpret findings of relevant diagnostic and laboratory testing.
  • Engage in coordination of care with outside providers, document and update current medication lists for clients, and provide referrals when necessary.
  • Abide by all safety, risk, and infection control guidelines.
  • Work with the interdisciplinary treatment team to develop treatment plans based on biopsychosocial theories and evidence-based standards.
  • Provide consultation regarding client care to clinical staff.
  • Utilize the EMR to enter required documentation, including Initial Psychiatric Evaluation, Medical Progress Notes, and ePrescribe.
  • Adhere to agency policies and procedures, and state and federal regulations (including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2).
  • Complete required in-service trainings and continuing education.
  • Engage in activities and reports to monitor compliance, quality assurance, and outcome measurement tracking.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Georgia license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  • Current DEA Registration is required.
  • Prior experience treating Substance Use Disorders or Co-Occurring Disorders preferred.
  • Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM criteria.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build rapport with clients and facilitate their growth through a team approach.
  • Strong leadership qualities and a high level of initiative.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and adjust treatment as required.
  • Competent in the use of technology, including Microsoft Office and EMR Systems.
