About the position

The Nurse Residency Program Coordinator at Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for overseeing the RN Residency Program, facilitating educational seminars for new graduates, and ensuring their successful transition into clinical practice. This role involves collaboration with unit-based educators and managers to address performance issues and provide necessary support to newly licensed nurses. The coordinator plays a crucial role in developing and implementing the residency curriculum, monitoring program effectiveness, and promoting professional growth among nursing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates RN Residency Program curriculum based on patient care needs.
  • Conducts and/or coordinates classes, skills verification labs, specialized courses, group sessions and other activities that constitute the curriculum.
  • Provides leadership and supervision to RNs and other personnel associated with the residency program.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of new graduate talent pipelines for the program.
  • Functions as a liaison between disciplines and departments ensuring smooth coordination of entry into units.
  • Serves as an operational liaison for all residency program needs, including monitoring budget and staffing.
  • Meets unit nursing leadership monthly to discuss residents' progress and addresses performance issues.
  • Conducts performance reviews in a timely and effective manner in partnership with assigned unit nursing leadership.
  • Participates in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs and desired patient-centered outcomes.
  • Models and promotes professionalism in nursing practice within the model of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing; Master of Science degree in Nursing with an education focus.
  • Current State of Texas license to practice professional nursing.
  • Basic Life Support Instructor or completion within the first year of employment.
  • Five years of experience in clinical area of practice and three years of educator experience.
  • Professional Certification in clinical area or management preferred or within three years of employment.
  • Completion of management/leadership training programs as designated by the institution within the first year of employment.
