About the position

The Nurse Residency Program at Kootenai Health is designed to support newly graduated nurses as they transition into the hospital setting. This full-time, year-long program provides comprehensive training, mentorship, and educational opportunities to ensure that Nurse Residents are well-prepared for their nursing careers. The program emphasizes evidence-based practice and offers a supportive environment for skill development and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in educational seminars and workshops to enhance nursing knowledge and skills.
  • Engage in peer support discussions and networking opportunities with fellow Nurse Residents.
  • Receive direct bedside preceptor and leadership support for three to six months.
  • Complete training in national certification courses relevant to specialty practice, such as BLS, ACLS, TNCC, NRP, and PALS.
  • Utilize the on-site library for interdisciplinary learning and resources.
  • Contribute to a professional nursing culture consistent with ANCC Magnet standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program.
  • Less than 6 months of hospital experience required at the time of hire.
  • State of Idaho Registered Nurse licensure or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • RN with less than 3 years' patient-facing nursing experience must enroll in a baccalaureate degree program within one year of employment.
  • RN with at least 3 years' patient-facing nursing experience must have an ADN or diploma, with a BSN or higher preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in behavioral health nursing is a plus.
  • Previous participation in nursing internships or clinical rotations.
