About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED) at North Campus is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients by utilizing the nursing process and adhering to the standards of practice for professional nursing. The RN will perform all essential staff nurse activities and will take on the role of charge nurse when assigned. This position requires the RN to maintain overall accountability and responsibility for the patients assigned to them, even when certain tasks may be delegated to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, or Sitters. The RN must ensure that all assignments are performed in accordance with the age and developmental level of the patients being served, demonstrating a commitment to high-quality patient care and safety. In this role, the RN will be expected to demonstrate effective teamwork and communication skills, collaborating with all members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN will also need to be proficient in learning and applying computer technologies and procedures that impact patient care delivery. The position requires a strong foundation in nursing principles, as well as the ability to adapt to the fast-paced environment of the Emergency Department. The RN will be part of a dynamic team that is dedicated to providing exceptional care to patients in critical situations. The role demands a proactive approach to patient management, with an emphasis on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care. The RN will also participate in ongoing education and training to maintain licensure and certifications, ensuring they are equipped to handle the challenges of the Emergency Department effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to patients in the Emergency Department utilizing the nursing process.
  • Perform all staff nurse activities and function as charge nurse when assigned.
  • Maintain overall accountability and responsibility for assigned patients.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and/or Sitters.
  • Ensure assignments are performed according to the age and developmental level of patients.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and communicate professionally with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Learn and apply computer technologies and procedures that affect patient care delivery.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • PALS and NRP certifications required within six months of hire or transfer for new hires after July 1, 2018.
  • Less than 1 year experience for EDFP Fellows; 1-2 years of Emergency Department or ICU experience as a Registered Nurse.

Nice-to-haves

  • BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • CEN or TNCC certification preferred.
  • 3-5 years of Emergency Room experience preferred.
