About the position

The Nurse V (Chief, Quality and Patient Safety) is a senior leadership role within the U.S. Veterans Health Administration, responsible for overseeing quality and patient safety initiatives at the Medical Center level. This position involves strategic planning, program development, and collaboration with various healthcare disciplines to ensure optimal care for veterans. The Chief will establish quality standards, lead risk management and patient safety programs, and promote a culture of safety and prevention within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Quality and Patient Safety initiatives at the Medical Center level.
  • Establish and maintain standards of quality across the healthcare system.
  • Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes for facility programs.
  • Oversee risk management, patient safety, and quality improvement programs.
  • Champion a High Reliability Organization (HRO) culture within the facility.
  • Collaborate with facility leaders on Medical Center initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related field with a BSN and 5 years of professional nursing experience, including specialized experience equivalent to Nurse IV.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state or territory.
  • Proficiency in English language, both written and spoken.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing a hospital-based quality and safety program.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission Accreditation Standards.
  • Experience working in a Magnet or Pathways designated facility.
