About the position

M Health Fairview is seeking a Nursing Assistant for the 2nd Floor General Surgery Unit at Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN. This role involves providing essential support to professional nurses in delivering patient care, particularly for post-operative surgical patients. The position requires working 60 hours every two weeks on the night shift, including every third weekend, and offers a competitive hourly wage along with various benefits.

Responsibilities

• Assist the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care.
• Transport patients and/or equipment as needed.
• Set up and maintain patient rooms, ensuring they are stocked with necessary supplies.
• Provide basic patient care including personal grooming, bathing, toileting, and feeding.
• Attend to skin care needs, including clean and sterile dressing changes and applying ointments/creams.
• Perform oral hygiene and specimen collection/testing.
• Position and ambulate patients safely.
• Change linens and promptly answer call lights.
• Assist the nurse in monitoring patient conditions by accurately taking and recording vital signs and other metrics.
• Report unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients.
• Orient patients and their families to the environment.
• Ensure patients' belongings are documented and accounted for during admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Transport patients to appointments on time using transfer belts when necessary.
• Clean, set up, and maintain rooms and equipment as required.
• Order and stock supplies as needed.
• Document tasks performed accurately on appropriate forms.

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required.
• Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program, or six months of recent direct care experience in a relevant setting.
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program with completion of one semester of clinical rotation, or current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire.
