About the position

The Nursing Assistant (NA) plays a crucial role in providing resident-centered care in a long-term care facility. This position involves assisting residents with daily living activities, ensuring their physical and psychological needs are met, and supporting the nursing team under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for residents while promoting their well-being and participation in wellness programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).
  • Deliver age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of residents as per care plans.
  • Assist residents with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and obtaining and recording vital signs.
  • Provide psychosocial support and personal care to assigned residents.
  • Assist residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment.
  • Complete tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience for residents.
  • Document resident interactions and outcomes related to care, behavior, activity, and dietary needs.
  • Communicate changes in residents' conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse.
  • Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs.
  • Provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents in keeping living areas clean and operational.
  • Encourage residents to participate in wellness and recreational programs.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of date into the position.
  • Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Satisfactorily complete yearly department specific competency testing and maintain a record of continuing education credits for each year.
