About the position

The Nursing Assistant in Dermatology at Nebraska Methodist Health System plays a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care by assisting healthcare providers with daily activities. This includes preparing patients for examinations, obtaining vital signs, and managing medical records. The position emphasizes a compassionate approach to patient care, ensuring a supportive environment for patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers in daily activities such as preparing patients for examination and obtaining vital signs.
  • Maintain and update medical records and forms, completing tracking forms and following up on missed appointments.
  • Provide patients and caregivers with preprinted health-related instructions from the provider.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas according to department/provider protocol.
  • Prepare exam rooms and medical equipment to facilitate treatment and examination of patients.
  • Gather patient data such as vital signs, height, weight, and reason for visit, and enter data into the medical record.
  • Transcribe information provided by patients into the medical record as directed by the provider.
  • Assist providers by retrieving test results and medical records as directed.
  • Perform EKGs and assist with phlebotomy, ensuring proper labeling and handling of specimens.
  • Schedule tests and other appointments as directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Nurse Aide Registry at time of hire or current experience working as a nursing assistant or enrolled in a nursing program required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures required.
  • Ability to provide caring patient care services and communicate effectively with patients and their families.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting as a nursing assistant or similar role.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records systems.
