About the position

The Nursing Assistant position at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) in Murfreesboro, TN, is a full-time role within the Geriatric Extended Care (GEC) unit. This position is part of a multi-grade career ladder, allowing for progression from GS-3 to GS-5 based on performance. Nursing Assistants will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses, providing essential patient care and support in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in implementing the healthcare plan by performing tasks delegated by and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Performs a full range of nursing procedures utilizing appropriate and safe techniques.
  • Responsible for the reprocessing and cleaning of reusable medical equipment items on the assigned unit.
  • Provides appropriate verbal information and written facts as part of a patient-driven holistic care plan.
  • Assures the appropriate and safe use of equipment and supplies.
  • Follows principles of infection control and safety, including standard precautions and reporting environmental safety hazards.
  • Recognizes urgent/emergent situations and follows emergency preparedness guidelines.
  • Provides for activities of daily living for a group of patients.
  • Provides technical support to unit staff.
  • Orients, coaches, and educates staff and students.
  • Monitors patients requiring close and continuous observation using AvaSure Telesitter technology.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Six months of general experience or one year of education above high school related to the NA occupation, or completion of an intensive training course related to the NA occupation.
  • Ability to acquire the knowledge and skills to perform the work of a Nursing Assistant.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
  • Two years of experience in a healthcare setting.
