About the position

The Nursing Assistant - Home Health position at UNC Health involves providing routine direct and indirect patient care in various settings, including hospitals, clinics, and home health care. The role is supervised by registered nurses or physicians and focuses on assisting with patient examinations, documenting care, and supporting patients and their families throughout their healthcare experience. This full-time position also includes a commitment incentive of $5,000 paid over three years.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, including procurement of equipment and supplies during emergencies.
  • In psychiatric settings, aid patients in reality orientation, participate in behavior modification plans, provide informal support therapy, and manage aggressive patients.
  • Observe, collect, and document patient information while providing care, reporting significant changes to a registered nurse or physician.
  • Assist patients and families during admission, orientation, and discharge processes.
  • Provide care and treatments as outlined in the plan of care, including vital signs measurement, specimen collection, and wound care.
  • Deliver direct personal care for daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
  • Perform indirect care tasks, including cleaning work areas, changing linens, and transporting patients or supplies.
  • Reinforce routine teaching provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient understanding.

Requirements

  • Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Prefer six months of nursing assistant experience.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English language with basic computer skills.
