About the position

The Nursing Assistant I + Clerical position in the GI Surgery & Surgical Oncology Acute Care Unit at UNC Medical Center involves providing clinical and clerical support to healthcare professionals in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. The role focuses on assisting with patient care for post-surgical patients, particularly those with gastrointestinal issues, while also managing various administrative tasks to ensure smooth operations within the unit.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies.
• Critically reviews patient care documentation making note of any significant changes in the patient's condition and makes an immediate report to a registered nurse or physician.
• Provides a variety of clerical tasks including organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, and maintaining medical records.
• Provides clinical support assistance including cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment, and transporting patients/supplies/specimens.
• Provides direct personal care to patients as outlined in plan of care activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
• Reinforces routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and documents patient understanding of instructions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
• Listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Service
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Fluency in verbal and written English language
