About the position
The Nursing Assistant II + Clerical (Per Diem) position at UNC Health involves providing clinical and clerical support in the GI Surgery & Surgical Oncology Acute Care Unit. This role is essential for assisting healthcare providers in delivering patient care, managing patient documentation, and maintaining the operational efficiency of the nursing unit. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, including rotating shifts and weekend rotations, and is designed for individuals who can work a minimum of 12 hours every two weeks.
Responsibilities
- Assists physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies.
- Critically reviews patient care documentation making note of any significant changes in the patient's condition and makes an immediate report to a registered nurse or physician.
- Provides a variety of clerical tasks including organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, and maintaining medical records.
- Provides clinical support assistance including cleaning the work area, troubleshooting software and hardware problems, and assisting in the orientation of new employees and students.
- Provides direct personal care to patients as outlined in the plan of care activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Reinforces routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and documents patient understanding of instructions.
Requirements
- High School diploma or General Education Development (GED)
- Listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
- Licensed as a Nursing Assistant II by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- One (1) year of clerical or customer service experience
- Three (3) months of nursing assistant experience
- Fluency in verbal and written English language
- Capability to develop computer skills if not competent.
