About the position

The Nursing Assistant II (Per Diem) position is responsible for providing routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting, specifically within the Pulmonary/Infectious Disease Acute Care unit. This role supports patients with pulmonary and infectious diseases, including those who are HIV positive and adults with cystic fibrosis. The position requires working under the supervision of registered nurses or physicians, and involves a variety of patient care tasks, clinical support, and administrative duties. The role is part-time, requiring a minimum of 12 hours every two weeks, with rotating day and night shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct personal care to patients as outlined in the plan of care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation.
• Measure and record vital signs, patient height and weight, and perform various clinical tasks such as specimen collection and wound care.
• Provide clinical support assistance, including cleaning work areas, maintaining equipment, and transporting patients and supplies.
• Assist physicians and healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, and procure necessary equipment and supplies.
• Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by registered nurses or physicians and document patient understanding of instructions.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• Listed as Nursing Assistant II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing
• Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
• Six months of related nursing assistant experience
• Fluent in verbal and written English language and able to develop basic computer skills.
