About the position

Join our team!! Nemours is seeking Patient Care Technicians (Certified Nursing Assistants) to join our team in Orlando, FL! This position requires you to either be a certified nursing assistant or complete 1 semester of nursing clinicals. As a Patient Care Technician, you will be responsible for assisting with general activities and demonstrating proficiency in the care of patients of all ages, including neonates, infants, toddlers, school-aged children, and adolescents. You will assist with the provision of family-centered care in conjunction with other disciplines, ensuring that the needs of both patients and their families are met effectively. Your essential functions will include preparing rooms for patient admissions, ensuring that the room is clean and that the proper equipment is set up for the patient's needs. You will also ensure an adequate stock of all necessary equipment and supplies in designated areas at established par levels. Performing vital signs and reporting any abnormalities to the assigned RN is a critical part of your role, as is recording the intake and output of patients as directed by the RN. Maintaining a clean and safe patient care environment is paramount, and you will assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, and playing, as well as providing other patient care as directed. Utilizing the electronic medical record as required for patient care is essential, and you will participate in unit, departmental, and hospital education programs to enhance your skills and knowledge. Additionally, you will be responsible for transporting patients to other unit locations and escorting discharged patients to their cars. Courteously and professionally covering the patient care unit front desk as needed is also part of your duties, which includes promptly answering telephones, greeting patients, sending reports, distributing, sorting, or processing mail, entering orders, and managing medical records. Throughout your work, you will adhere to the Nemours Standards of Behavior, ensuring a high level of professionalism and care.

Responsibilities

  • Recording intake and output of patients as directed by RN.
  • Ensuring a clean and safe patient care environment.
  • Assisting patients with activities of daily living (bath, feed, play, etc.).
  • Utilizing the electronic medical record as required for patient care.
  • Participating in unit, departmental, and hospital education programs.
  • Transporting patients to other unit locations and escorting discharged patients to car.
  • Covering patient care unit front desk as needed, including answering telephones and greeting patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant course required.
  • Completion of at least one semester of basic nursing skills in an accredited nursing program required if not a certified nursing assistant.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of hospital PCT or CNA experience preferred; hospital experience preferred.
  • Valid American Heart Association BLS Certification required upon hire; BLS certification must be valid for 90 days post start date.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) setting.
  • Additional certifications in patient care or nursing.
