The Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician position at UPMC Mercy's 6E Brain Injury Rehab department is a part-time role focused on providing essential patient care and support within a specialized rehabilitation unit. Responsibilities

  • Provide routine patient care in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, and toileting.
  • Perform point of care testing, vital signs monitoring, and telemetry applications.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and maintain professional relationships.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and ensure safety in the workplace.
  • Participate in unit activities including responding to call lights and transporting patients.
  • Document patient care activities in the medical record as per established procedures.
  • Assist with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies under RN direction.
  • Participate in department-based projects and quality initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 year of general healthcare experience or 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire.
  • Enrollment in a PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation.
  • Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class and basic information system training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program.
  • Microcomputer experience preferred.
