About the position

The Nursing Assistant position at the U.S. Government's Veterans Health Administration involves providing essential care to Veterans in a Community Living Center. The role focuses on assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and supporting rehabilitation efforts. This position is crucial in ensuring the comfort and well-being of Veterans during their stay, which typically lasts between 30 to 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Takes and records temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respirations, pulse oximetry, height, and weight.
• Assists with activities related to bathing, shaving, feeding, oral hygiene, ambulation, and dressing.
• Performs basic procedures such as blood glucose testing and bladder scans.
• Sets up equipment such as oxygen tanks, suction canisters, and cardiac monitors.
• Escorts patients to different areas of the facility as needed.
• Assists the RN or LPN in rehabilitation goals and ensures overall safety.
• Promotes Veteran participation in the therapeutic community by fostering self-reliance and independence.
• Recognizes and supports suicide prevention initiatives.
• Documents patients' daily living activities in the electronic patient record system.
• Interacts with patients' families to help them feel comfortable.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
• Completion of at least one year of education above high school related to nursing assistant occupation or equivalent experience.
