About the position

As a Nursing Intern in the Emergency Department at Ascension Health, you will play a vital role in providing direct nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This position is designed for individuals who are either accepted into or currently enrolled in a nursing program, allowing you to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment. You will be responsible for completing assigned nursing orders, which may include assisting patients with activities of daily living, taking vital signs, and observing patient status and responses. Your observations will be documented and reported to your preceptor or other appropriate staff members, ensuring that patient care is coordinated and effective. In addition to direct patient care, you will assist your preceptor in developing care plans by reporting test results and patient observations. This role may also involve performing other tasks as assigned, such as environmental services and preparing or transporting patients for diagnostic services. The position requires a commitment to following established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization, ensuring that all care provided is safe and effective. Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Complete assigned nursing orders as directed by preceptor, including assisting patients with activities of daily living and taking vital signs.
  • Observe patient status and responses, documenting and reporting observations to preceptor or other appropriate staff.
  • Assist preceptor with the development of care plans by reporting test results and patient observations.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned, including environmental services and preparing/transporting patients for diagnostic services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Must be accepted or enrolled in a Nursing program upon date of hire/transfer and begin classes within 90 days of date of hire/transfer.
  • BLS Provider certification obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
