About the position

The Nursing Service Business Operations Manager is responsible for the financial, operational, and programmatic management of assigned divisions and units within the Department of Nursing at Cook County Health (CCH). This role is pivotal in establishing integrated service line models aimed at growing volume and developing service-specific strategies. The manager will streamline workflows to optimize revenue for both John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital and Provident Hospital. Key responsibilities include assisting in purchasing, contract management, and the request for proposal processes, as well as budget development and monitoring. This includes creating customized variance reports and managing charge capture processes to enhance revenue optimization. In addition to financial management, the Nursing Service Business Operations Manager will engage in collective bargaining activities, reviewing applicable agreements and consulting with Labor Relations to generate management proposals. The role involves participating in negotiations and working meetings, documenting and recommending disciplinary actions, and ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements. The manager will also contribute to the overall management of CCH staff, discussing and developing system policies and procedures, and utilizing independent judgment to address operational staffing issues. The position requires a proactive approach to budget management, including forecasting and preparing monthly expense variance reports. The manager will develop strategies to maximize revenue while minimizing costs, compile and analyze operational and financial data, and support charge capture processes through education and training. The role also involves identifying productivity improvement opportunities, coordinating purchasing processes, and producing management reports to support service line growth. The Nursing Service Business Operations Manager will serve as a resource for improvement initiatives and participate in the development and implementation of service-line programs and long-range planning.

Responsibilities

  • Manage financial, operational, and programmatic aspects of assigned Nursing divisions/units.
  • Establish integrated service line models to grow volume and develop service-specific strategies.
  • Streamline workflows to optimize revenue for John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital and Provident Hospital.
  • Assist in purchasing, contract management, and request for proposal processes.
  • Develop and monitor budgets, including creating customized variance reports.
  • Manage charge capture processes to optimize revenue.
  • Prepare monthly Nursing expense variance reports and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Compile and analyze operational and financial data to improve efficiency and reimbursement.
  • Initiate and coordinate purchasing and payment processes for goods and services.
  • Support interviewing, hiring, and tracking processes of posted positions.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data to produce management reports for service line operations growth.
  • Develop materials and techniques for staff development impacting operations and policies.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of service-line programs and objectives.
  • Provide reports on detailed analyses for department workflows and prepare business planning presentations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Public Health (MPH), Business Administration (MBA), or Healthcare Administration (MHA) from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of experience in an administrative role in a healthcare setting with financial, management, or business experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
