About the position

The Nutrition Assistant will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to support and promote health education, nutrition presentations, and other activities for patients in the Bronx. This role involves engaging in field work and traveling to various locations, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals with a Bachelor's in Nutrition to start their career in Nutrition/Health and Wellness. Growth opportunities are available with additional experience and credentialing, particularly for those aspiring to become a Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) in a community health setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist Nutritionist with carrying out activities.
• Conduct nutrition consults and screenings.
• Assist in the development of new and creative ways to enhance Nutrition Education programs.
• Recruit patients for department activities and programs such as diabetes and cooking classes.
• Assist with reviewing and addressing nutrition referrals generated by providers.
• Provide preventive education to low-risk patients and refer high-risk patients to the nutritionist/CDN.
• Make reminder phone calls to patients.
• Assist with food insecurity programs and outreach events.
• Attend departmental meetings.

Requirements

• Bilingual in Spanish and English required.
• High School diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Health Education, Nutrition, Community Health or related field preferred.
• 0-1 years of related experience.
• Good public speaking and communication skills are required.
• Food Handler Certification is a plus.
