About the position

The Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition services for children and families within the VOALA Head Start and Early Head Start programs. This role involves creating nutrition plans, overseeing menu compliance with USDA guidelines, providing nutrition education, and ensuring the nutritional needs of children are met. The coordinator will also connect families with community resources and maintain necessary records and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop nutrition plans and assessments with the Nutrition Program Manager.
  • Conduct trainings and meetings with designated staff to implement the Nutrition program.
  • Oversee and approve all menus to ensure compliance with USDA guidelines.
  • Work with kitchen staff on menu/recipe planning and kitchen functions.
  • Provide comprehensive nutrition services and recommendations for health and dental care.
  • Connect children and families to needed services or resources in the community.
  • Maintain dietary records and submit reports for program and funder requirements.
  • Monitor and update procedures in line with health trends and program needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date client data, nutrition records, and growth assessments.
  • Travel to various sites and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide staff training to promote continuous improvement.
  • Attend funder-required meetings and conduct meetings with parents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, or a closely related pediatric field.
  • Two years of experience in nutrition-related fields.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint clearance and background check.
  • Health examination and verification of T.B. clearance prior to employment.
  • Annual Influenza vaccination and immunizations for Pertussis and measles.
  • Ability to interact with children in a busy environment and perform physical tasks such as lifting (50 lbs.) and moving quickly.
  • Access to an automobile with adequate insurance coverage and a valid California driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in nutrition, Public Health, or related field.
  • Work experience in Head Start/Early Head Start programs.
  • Experience with Child Plus, UltiPro, and Acorn.
  • Knowledge of nutrition, dietary, and allergy education.
  • Knowledge of USDA and CACFP regulations.
  • Knowledge of menu planning, recipe development, and nutrient analysis of food.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or other languages such as Armenian or Farsi.
