About the position

The Nutrition Educator for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program is responsible for providing nutrition education and support to families, particularly focusing on maternal and child health. This role involves conducting assessments, offering individual and group nutrition counseling, and ensuring compliance with WIC guidelines. The educator will also promote breastfeeding and assist families with nutritional needs, while collaborating with a multi-disciplinary healthcare team to enhance service quality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide WIC certifications including health history, anthropometrics, immunization screening, and hemoglobin testing.
  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate group nutrition education classes according to WIC guidelines.
  • Document all nutrition education contacts and perform hemoglobin controls as needed.
  • Assist families with infants on contract and List I formulas, including education and monitoring.
  • Provide breastfeeding promotion and support to pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  • Consult and provide technical assistance to the healthcare team and community regarding normal nutrition.
  • Participate in clinic/class scheduling, caseload monitoring, and outreach as part of the WIC team.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in home economics, dietetics, foods and nutrition, or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant nutritional experience in a clinical, public health, or institutional setting, or an associate degree with similar experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of normal nutrition principles related to maternal, infant, and child populations.
