About the position

The Nutrition Manager for Elementary Schools is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a school cafeteria, ensuring efficient food production and service activities. This role includes managing staff, maintaining compliance with state and USDA requirements, and ensuring the proper handling of food and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operation of the school cafeteria.
  • Supervise food production and service activities in the kitchen.
  • Receive and forward free and reduced lunch applications to the central office.
  • Pre-qualify students for free/reduced lunch status.
  • Plan and post work schedules for lunchroom staff daily.
  • Order all food and supplies for the kitchen.
  • Receive deliveries and check supply orders and invoices.
  • Prepare daily paperwork for meal counts, deposits, and production records.
  • Make daily deposits of all income.
  • Maintain accurate inventories of purchased and USDA foods.
  • Participate in training courses as required by state standards.
  • Plan and maintain daily production records.
  • Control daily inventory withdrawal in storage room, coolers, and freezers.
  • Maintain all records and reports to meet State and USDA requirements.
  • Hire and train new personnel.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in food service in Clayton County production and management as an Assistant Manager or in the MIT program, or two years of experience in food service outside the school system with a wide range of responsibilities in management and record-keeping.
  • Successful completion of a basic math and food service management skills assessment.
  • Must have successfully passed the national ServeSafe sanitation and safety certification test.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with state-of-the-art point of sale and back-of-the-house software technology.
