About the position

The Nutrition Provisions Specialist plays a crucial role in the Food and Nutrition Services Section, focusing on the implementation of Child Nutrition Programs and special provisions to ensure that nutritious meals are provided to students in Missouri. This position involves managing data related to special provisions, analyzing eligibility data, and providing technical assistance to local education agencies (LEAs). The specialist will also be responsible for communication, documentation reviews, and supporting various nutrition programs.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Child Nutrition Programs and initiatives related to special provisions including Provision 2, Provision 3, and Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
  • Manage data for special provisions and analyze school-level eligibility data submitted from LEAs.
  • Notify and publish lists of CEP eligible and near-eligible LEAs and schools on the State agency website.
  • Access State reporting systems to review and monitor documents uploaded by LEAs for CEP document validation.
  • Conduct base-year documentation reviews for schools operating Provision 2 or 3.
  • Provide updates and guidance to LEAs in each stage of Provision 2 and Provision 3.
  • Provide technical assistance to LEAs interested in electing CEP or a special Provision.
  • Develop and provide supplemental resources for special Provision promotion, planning, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with the School Finance Section to carry out audit functions required by the USDA.
  • Maintain a systematic procedure for receiving and reviewing school food service audits from non-public LEAs.
  • Manage data tracking and waivers for mandated Breakfast Program participation.
  • Assist with conference and/or workshop support including registration and material dissemination.
  • Notify and educate schools eligible to operate programs based on free or reduced percentages and area eligibility.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Food Science, Dietetics, or a closely related field.
  • Four years of experience in accounting, business administration, elementary/secondary education, government, policy, food service program management, food and nutrition science, data management, or closely related experience, along with a high school diploma or equivalency.
