About the position

The Nutritionist I, Bilingual position at Cook County Health involves providing nutrition counseling and education within the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. The role includes overseeing WIC site operations, directing clinic staff, and ensuring compliance with health and nutritional standards. The Nutritionist will also conduct assessments, develop care plans, and facilitate group education sessions, while maintaining accurate records and participating in case management activities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial and periodic assessments of WIC clients for dietary case management.
  • Provide individual dietary counseling for clients in the WIC program, focusing on those at risk.
  • Develop individual care plans for participants based on WIC priority and monitor progress.
  • Provide referrals to other agency or community health and social services as needed.
  • Conduct group nutrition education sessions for WIC program participants.
  • Maintain records of assessment and counseling in accordance with Illinois Department of Human Services requirements.
  • Participate in Case Management program through activation of eligible clients and assessment of WIC risk factors.
  • Share responsibility for adherence to WIC program standards and schedules.
  • Ensure the security of the WIC cornerstone system and report any suspected misuse.
  • Assist in the collection of routine and special data and prepare reports as assigned.
  • Oversee WIC site operations and direct clinic staff as the on-site professional.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities and exercises as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and another language.
  • Experience in nutrition counseling and education, particularly in a community health setting.
  • Knowledge of WIC program standards and requirements.
  • Ability to develop and implement individual care plans.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
