About the position

The Asbestos Investigator at H2M Architects + Engineers is responsible for conducting asbestos, mold, and lead surveys in residential and commercial buildings. This role involves sampling, testing, and inspections, as well as preparing detailed reports for various clients including insurance companies and school districts. The position requires travel to job sites and may involve using a personal vehicle for work-related travel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform asbestos, mold, and lead surveys on residential and commercial buildings.
  • Provide project monitoring and air sampling, ensuring compliance with on-site field protocols such as chain of custody forms and daily logs.
  • Prepare and review project-related reports.
  • Manage asbestos and lead abatement projects, including scheduling field staff and client management.
  • Ensure compliance with state and city agencies.

Requirements

  • Must have 'Inspector Certificate' issued by NYSDOL.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in relevant fields, including 2 years in building survey/hazard assessment for ACM and 3 years of other documented building survey experience, or a college degree with relevant asbestos work experience.
  • Greater than 1 year of experience in the environmental consulting field, specifically industrial hygiene.
  • Current NYC DEP Asbestos Investigator certification required.
  • Current NYSDOL certifications for Asbestos Inspector required.
  • Asbestos Project Monitoring/Air Sampling Technician certification desired.
  • Asbestos Project Designer certification desired.
  • Mold Assessor certification is a plus.
  • Lead EPA lead inspector/risk assessor certification is a plus.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of architectural drawings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Client relationship skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
