About the position

The position at Veolia North America involves providing day-to-day monitoring and basic operations of plant and pump/booster stations, as well as conducting routine lab tests and performing basic corrective and preventative maintenance activities. The role requires operating equipment both manually and through instrumentation panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units, adhering to established process control procedures. Employees will monitor and observe operating conditions, record observations and data in a shift log, and diagnose basic operational problems, taking corrective action as necessary according to procedures. In addition to equipment operation, the role includes performing routine cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, inspection, and minor repairs on various machines and related equipment, such as pumps, engines, centrifuges, and chemical feed systems. Employees are expected to report and document the results of their work and enter this information into the appropriate database. They will also collect samples of water, wastewater, industrial waste, and other materials according to a set schedule, performing field tests to ensure proper chemical dosages for process and odor control units. The position requires performing routine lab tests, preparing reports, and conducting instrument calibration for portable meters. Employees will learn to inspect and troubleshoot mechanical issues, dismantling equipment to access and repair defective parts using hand and power tools. The role also involves manual labor, including cleaning equipment and facilities, and may require the operation of vehicles and mobile equipment for maintenance purposes. Facility maintenance tasks may include replacing light bulbs, repairing windows, and performing general upkeep of the work environment. The work environment is primarily operational, with employees spending 100% of their time in this setting, which may include exposure to outdoor conditions and various operational hazards. The position may require travel for training purposes and participation in a rotational 24-hour emergency on-call schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment manually and through instrumentation panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units following process control procedures.
  • Monitors and observes operating conditions, records observations and data in shift log.
  • Diagnoses basic operational problems and takes corrective action per procedure.
  • Performs routine cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, inspection, and minor repair on machines and related equipment.
  • Reports and documents results of work performed and enters into appropriate database.
  • Collects water, wastewater, industrial waste, groundwater, sludge, residuals, and/or gas samples according to schedule.
  • Performs field tests (chemical, physical, and biological) to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units.
  • Prepares chemical solutions, monitors supplies, and recommends reorder.
  • Performs routine lab tests and prepares reports per procedure.
  • Performs routine instrument calibration for portable meters.
  • Learns to inspect and becomes proficient at mechanical troubleshooting to determine repairs needed.
  • Dismantles equipment to gain access to and repairs defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring and testing devices.
  • Re-assembles and tests equipment ensuring safe and efficient operating condition is restored.
  • Performs manual labor including cleaning equipment, facilities, and grounds as required.
  • Operates vehicles, mobile equipment, and material handling equipment for operational and maintenance purposes.
  • Performs facility maintenance and repair and may replace or install light bulbs, windows, doors, and other fixtures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with the ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
  • Six months to two years of experience in a related position, preferably in a similar environment.
  • Experience using material handling equipment, pressure gauges, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience using power, pneumatic, hydraulic, and hand tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some vocational training and mechanical aptitude preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to operate programs for process control and maintenance management systems.
