About the position

The OB Technician is responsible for providing surgical patient care and related services in the OB operating room under the supervision of the RN circulator. This role ensures a safe and efficient surgical environment and assists nursing staff in both direct and non-direct patient care functions when not in the operating room.

Responsibilities

• Assess surgical procedures and patient specific requirements with the circulating nurse to ensure proper preparation of the OB operating room.
• Prepare and maintain the sterile operating field for the duration of each surgical procedure.
• Assist the surgeon as needed during the inter-operative procedure.
• Assist with room turnover in the OB operating room suites between cases.
• Perform accurate instrument, sponge, needle, and blade count.
• Assist nursing staff in direct and non-direct patient care functions.
• Obtain and articulate pertinent data in an objective manner.
• Communicate pertinent patient information to the RN to assure continuum of care.
• Document the various aspects of care according to RMC policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate from an approved Surgical Technician program
• Knowledge of sterile technique and handling of sterile equipment
• Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
• Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence
• Preparation and maintenance of a sterile field
• Ability to work autonomously and as a team
• Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment
• Strong communication and listening skills
• Knowledge of basic computer functions
• Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
