About the position

The Occupational Health Nurse PRN position at Houston Methodist provides expert, integrated, cost-effective, quality patient care through the coordination of clinical care for occupational health clients and programs. This role involves planning, developing, and implementing occupational health programs, including assessments for new employees, ongoing health management, and drug testing. The nurse collaborates with various departments to ensure employee health and safety, manage occupational injuries, and provide education and training.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and report occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Conduct pre-employment health assessments for new hires and volunteers.
  • Administer immunizations and track compliance with health programs.
  • Provide nursing care including first aid, vital signs, and medication dispensing.
  • Collaborate with Infection Prevention and Control on employee exposure investigations.
  • Participate in safety committees and report on occupational health trends.
  • Coordinate training on safe patient handling and mobility principles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Associate's degree with additional nursing experience.
  • Two years of nursing experience required; occupational health experience preferred.
  • Current RN License in Texas or Compact State License within 60 days.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) or COHN-S certification.
