About the position

The Occupational Therapist (Clinical Specialist) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs Butler VA Medical Center is focused on providing advanced outpatient assessments and treatment for Veterans with complex upper extremity physical dysfunction. The role involves developing and implementing occupational therapy programs tailored to individual patient needs, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, and providing clinical guidance to other occupational therapists within the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a full professional understanding of occupational therapy principles and techniques.
  • Develop and implement occupational therapy programs for patients with hand injuries, upper limb trauma, and other conditions.
  • Choose appropriate evaluation tools based on patient needs and history.
  • Implement treatment plans that may include therapeutic exercises and adaptive techniques.
  • Educate patients and caregivers about disabilities and treatment processes.
  • Establish intervention priorities and determine prognosis for therapy services.
  • Provide direct clinical guidance and training to other occupational therapists.
  • Consult with other healthcare practitioners about occupational therapy practices.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy and two years of experience, or a Master's degree in occupational therapy.
  • Current NBCOT certification as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted state license to practice occupational therapy.
  • Minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice in the advanced practice area within the past five years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in an area recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
  • Knowledge of contemporary occupational therapy across multiple areas of practice.
