About the position

The Occupational Therapist position at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility involves providing advanced occupational therapy services to a diverse population of approximately 37,000 Native Americans. The role requires the therapist to perform evaluations, develop treatment plans, and implement therapeutic interventions for patients with various physical and cognitive impairments. This position is integral to the Physical Rehabilitation Services and aims to enhance the functional abilities and quality of life for patients through evidence-based practices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of complex occupational therapy duties requiring advanced practical knowledge of occupational therapy.
  • Provide evaluation and therapeutic interventions for individuals with physical rehabilitation needs, including musculoskeletal injuries, neurological impairments, and cognitive disorders.
  • Develop and implement complex, goal-oriented treatment plans for patients with multiple dysfunctions and impairments.
  • Apply therapeutic modalities and new integrative techniques for evaluation and ongoing treatment.
  • Fabricate custom upper extremity orthoses and recommend adaptive equipment to improve patient function.
  • Educate patients and families on injury/disease processes, joint protection, and activity modification.

Requirements

  • Must have a graduate or higher-level degree in occupational therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Must have passed the national examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service, or three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree.
