About the position

As an Occupational Therapist PRN at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and treating patients who face physical, emotional, cognitive, and psychosocial limitations that affect their ability to perform daily activities. In this role, you will assess patients' abilities to safely and effectively perform independent activities of daily living. You will document and charge accurately and timely, adhering to standards of practice, insurance guidelines, and hospital policies. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs, monitoring their progress, and making necessary adjustments to their care plans. You will also assist with discharge planning, providing patients and their families with information on adaptive equipment and follow-up services. Effective communication is key in this role, as you will need to collaborate with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals across various care settings. You will oversee the work of certified occupational therapy assistants and rehabilitation therapy aides, ensuring compliance with established regulations and practice standards. Additionally, you will be expected to meet productivity standards set by the department and participate in departmental meetings and educational opportunities to enhance your professional development. This position requires flexibility, as you will need to adjust your working hours based on patient census and may assist in other centers or programs as needed. Your contributions will not only impact individual patients but also help market the occupational therapy program within the hospital and the broader community.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and treats patients with physical, emotional, cognitive, psychosocial limitations as medically prescribed.
  • Assesses patient ability to safely and effectively perform independent activities of daily living skills.
  • Documents and charges accurately, completely, and timely using measurable and objective terminology.
  • Designs and implements a treatment plan of care utilizing practice standards and recommended techniques and modalities.
  • Monitors patient's response and progress to treatment and modifies treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Provides discharge planning assistance and information regarding adaptive equipment and follow-up services.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, family, and healthcare professionals across care settings.
  • Oversees care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants and rehabilitation therapy aides.
  • Meets productivity standards as defined by the department.
  • Attends department meetings and education as required.
  • Maintains clinical knowledge and serves as a Clinical instructor.
  • Educates patients, family members, and caregivers about identified needs.
  • Assists in marketing the occupational therapy program in the hospital and community as required.
  • Adjusts working hours to assist in other centers or programs as needed.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support - CPR Certification required before starting patient care.
  • Licensed in applicable state as an Occupational Therapist or possess a Temporary State permit as Occupational Therapist.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment and follow-up services.
