About the position

The Occupational Therapist (OT) position at Amergis involves providing therapy services to students across 4-5 schools in Leonardtown, Maryland. The role is primarily focused on performing evaluations, developing therapy plans, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure effective rehabilitation for students. The position is full-time, with the possibility of part-time work, and requires a Maryland license or pending licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Provides skilled occupational therapy services/interventions in accordance with physician orders
  • Regularly reevaluates students for rehabilitation needs and collaborates with the physician and healthcare team to modify care plans
  • Collaborates with all disciplines to plan and evaluate team goals for each student
  • Assesses students' needs and modifies care to meet Occupational Therapy intervention goals
  • Instructs students, families, and caregivers on the occupational therapy program
  • Advises and instructs multidisciplinary team members on occupational therapy modalities
  • Observes and reports student progress and changes in status to the physician and team members
  • Directs OT treatment and develops occupational therapy plans of care
  • Refers individuals to other disciplines as appropriate and approved by the physician
  • Reports reactions to treatment and adverse signs to the physician and caregivers
  • Teaches new skills or retrains students in daily activities affected by illness or injury
  • Establishes equipment needs for independent functioning
  • Instructs on the use of adaptive equipment and ensures it is in good working order
  • Trains students and caregivers in the use of prosthetic and orthotic devices
  • Provides accurate and timely documentation according to the plan of care
  • Participates in IEP conferences or other meetings to coordinate health services
  • Prepares and submits clinical progress summaries based on goal progress
  • Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants according to policies and regulations
  • Complies with local, state, and federal laws regarding professional standards
  • May fabricate splints and instruct on their use
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Requirements

  • Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the State of practice
  • One (1) year of prior professional Occupational Therapy experience preferred
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR certification if applicable
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate as per contract or state regulation
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
