About the position

As an Occupational Therapist PRN at AdventHealth South Overland Park, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and treating patients with various physical, emotional, cognitive, and psychosocial limitations. Your primary responsibility will be to assist patients in regaining their independence in activities of daily living as prescribed by their medical professionals. This position is designed for those who are passionate about providing holistic care and are committed to uplifting the community through their expertise in occupational therapy. In this role, you will assess each patient's ability to perform daily living skills safely and effectively. You will document and charge for services accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to the standards of practice, insurance guidelines, and hospital policies. You will also design and implement individualized treatment plans that utilize best practices and recommended techniques tailored to each patient's unique needs. Monitoring patient progress and modifying treatment plans as necessary will be key components of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will provide discharge planning assistance, ensuring that patients and their families are well-informed about adaptive equipment and follow-up services. Effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals across various care settings is essential. You will oversee the work of certified occupational therapy assistants and rehabilitation therapy aides, ensuring compliance with established regulations and practice standards. This position requires flexibility, as you may need to adjust your working hours to accommodate changes in patient census and assist in other programs as needed. You will also have opportunities to engage in professional development and performance improvement initiatives, maintaining your clinical knowledge and serving as a clinical instructor when necessary. Your role may also involve marketing the occupational therapy program within the hospital and the community, contributing to the overall mission of AdventHealth to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and treats patients with physical, emotional, cognitive, psychosocial, and/or limitations with activities of daily living as medically prescribed.
  • Assesses patient ability to safely and effectively perform independent activities of daily living skills.
  • Documents and charges accurately, completely, and timely using measurable and objective terminology, following standards of practice, insurance guidelines and department/hospital policies and procedures.
  • Designs and implements a treatment plan of care utilizing practice standards and recommended techniques and modalities, insurance guidelines, and patient's needs.
  • Monitors patient's response and progress to treatment and modifies treatment plans appropriately.
  • Provides discharge planning assistance and information regarding appropriate selection/use of adaptive equipment and follow-up services.
  • Communicates appropriately and effectively with patients, family, and healthcare professionals within and across care settings and communities.
  • Oversees the care provided by certified occupational therapy assistants and rehabilitation therapy aides, according to established regulations and practice standards.
  • Meets productivity standard as defined by department.
  • Attends department meetings and education as required.
  • Practices principles of professional development and performance improvements by maintaining clinical knowledge, using best and/or evidence-based practices, and serving as a Clinical instructor.
  • Educates patients, family members, and caregivers about identified needs.
  • May assist as required to market occupational therapy program in the hospital and community.
  • Willingly adjusts and adapts to changes in patient census by altering working hours to assist in other centers, programs as needed, approved and observed by manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support - CPR Certification required before starting patient care.
  • Licensed in applicable state as an Occupational Therapist or possess a Temporary State permit as Occupational Therapist.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a hospital or clinical setting preferred.
