About the position

The Occupational Therapist in Sports Medicine at Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for ensuring clinical excellence in patient care, particularly for those with hand therapy needs. This role involves direct patient care, assessment, treatment planning, and supervision of staff, while also serving as a mentor and resource for educational programs. The therapist will work to maximize patient independence and improve occupational performance across various life stages.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of patients referred by physicians.
  • Develop and implement occupational therapy treatment plans based on evaluation findings.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment goals and plans as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Document patient care and treatment progress accurately in medical records.
  • Supervise assistants and support staff, ensuring safe and effective performance.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for staff, students, and the community.
  • Identify and implement new departmental programs or revisions to existing ones.
  • Assist in departmental planning, including budgets and strategic goals.
  • Lead departmental committees and participate in system/facility committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current License to practice Occupational Therapy in Texas.
  • Current Certification in Basic Life Support.
  • Experience in occupational therapy with a focus on hand therapy preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 75-100 pounds and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Fine hand dexterity and strong communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced education or clinical certification in occupational therapy.
  • Experience in community education and marketing.
