About the position

The Occupational Therapist position is focused on providing comprehensive occupational therapy services within the Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) program. The role involves planning, integrating, and coordinating therapy services for clients with a wide range of disabilities, while collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic care. The therapist will also be responsible for educating clients and their families, supervising interns, and maintaining professional competence through ongoing learning.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, integrate, and coordinate comprehensive occupational therapy services for HBPC clients.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other VAMC disciplines to provide comprehensive client care.
  • Educate and train clients and their families regarding disabilities, home programs, and community resources.
  • Make recommendations for adaptation of architectural barriers as needed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and in-service training.
  • Compile statistical data to document program effectiveness and therapist caseload.
  • Complete daily encounter forms and maintain client attendance statistics.
  • Organize workload to allow adequate time for patient treatments and documentation.
  • Follow prescribed infection control and safety procedures.
  • Supervise and instruct occupational therapy interns and students.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Possess a current NBCOT certification as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Hold a full, current, and unrestricted state license to practice occupational therapy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of occupational therapy principles and techniques based on current clinical standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Skill in critical analysis and clinical reasoning to solve complex problems related to patient care.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in home care or home visits.
  • Adult/geriatric practice experience.
