About The Position

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) position at AW Health Care involves administering occupational therapy to patients in their homes, following physician orders and care plans under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist and the Director of Therapy. This role is crucial in helping patients improve their physical capabilities and return to productive levels of functioning.

Requirements

  • Certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant established by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
  • Currently certified in the state(s) in which practicing.
  • Two (2) years of experience preferred.
  • Ability to participate in physical activity.
  • Ability to work for extended periods while standing and being involved in physical activity.
  • Moderate lifting capability.
  • Ability to do extensive bending, lifting, and standing on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to established Agency policies and procedures.
  • Improve or minimize residual physical disabilities of the patient.
  • Return the individual to optimum and productive level within the patient's capabilities.
  • Participate with all other health care personnel in patient care planning.
  • Perform all skilled procedures as ordered by physician and according to the plan of care established by the OT.
  • Consult with OT regarding change in treatment.
  • Instruct patients and family members in home programs and fine motor movement exercises.
  • Participate in in-service education and present in-service programs as assigned.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities as assigned.
  • Attend all patient care conferences as scheduled.
  • Prepare medical records and update care plans for each patient visit in a timely manner as per Agency policy.
  • Perform services planned, delegated and supervised by the OT.
  • Assist in preparing clinical and progress notes.
  • Participate in educating the patient and family.
