About the position

In this role, the OEM Applications Engineer (OAE) will provide technical sales execution through deep domain expertise to the OEM Business Development Manager, OEM customers, technical support, product engineering, and R&D. The areas of technical sales execution include, but are not limited to, ABB Low Voltage (LV) drive and PLC/HMI product knowledge, LV drive and PLC/HMI product application, and general LV drive and motor application issues. The OAE will be responsible for designing and recommending tailored solutions based on a deep knowledge of the portfolio and capabilities to meet the OEMs' unique needs. This includes contributing to specifications by negotiating deviations and agreeing on win-win solutions, as well as identifying and communicating the applicability of new or emerging functional solutions to address current business issues. The OAE will also advise others on the delivery of high-quality solutions by applying broad and deep domain expertise. Additionally, the OAE will analyze drive, PLC/HMI, and motor application problems and initiate effective measures for their solution. This involves coordinating activities with related groups to efficiently achieve objectives and ensure customer satisfaction. The OAE will ensure that other OEM Application Engineers are technically ready before engaging with targeted OEMs. Responsibilities also include goal setting with timely review and feedback, general managerial duties such as expense reports, safety training, and establishing priorities, as well as assisting with the formation of cross-functional support teams. This position is remote and contributes to the Motion - Drive Products team.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred).
  • 8 years of experience in the application of Low Voltage drives.
  • Previous technical sales experience with chillers, blowers, and food and beverage.
  • Exceptional technical application and technical communication skills.
  • Understanding of Serial and Ethernet communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet, etc.).
  • Programming experience in industrial PLCs (ABB, Rockwell, Siemens, Square D, or others).
  • Candidates must already have work authorization that permits them to work for ABB in the US.
